Website Assessment

In the past couple of weeks I was engaged with a colleague to evaluate and assess a website being created for the PNG Tourism Industry Association. The association previously engaged a website developer to create a test site which will test our analytical skills to recommend the best for the association.

First of, we did not know what we were supposed to do apart from pointing out a few flaws and suggesting quick recommendations on the layout and functionality of the site. Little did we know that we are going to do a full scale assessment and report on the matter.

AUDIENCE

What are the requirements? There are so many things involved in a website development. But mostly centered around the audience of your website. Who are the target audience of the site? In this case, its outside visitors and members of the association. Visitors can be able to use the site to follow latest news and events that that PNGTIA is puting out annualy. Members can be able to use the site to register on events and discuss feedbacks (well that was my suggestion to have forums online).

FEATURES

What are the most attractive functionalities of the website? I think the event calendar would be the most attractive feature of the site as it will be kind of the first in PNG - I hope - and it would be so much easier for viewers to know whats comming and for members to register for those events. Other minor features may include a comments section on news feeds and we are hopeful to set up a forum for members and also blogs to allow members to share their views both on the site and on Social Media Platforms such as facebook, twitter or instagram.

OTHER BASICS

Once we get the main things out of the way then we can focus on the structure, content and layout of the site. The important thing is to have a site that is simple, easy to manage, not too crowded but digestible for views and most of all attractive.

Well that's about it for now. We are planning what our next steps and will keep you in the loop!

You can check out the finish product once we are done with it!

Peace out
