Why PHP and SQL Are Still Worth Learning in 2025

If you are a new developer eyeing the landscape for 2025 trying to figure out where to start or what is worth your precious time on Notepad++ or similar coding app?

What if you are from a small country in the pacific like Papua New Guinea and you want to help an SME, an NGO, or even a government department to store data efficiently?

I have been off the coding wagon for a couple of years and this year, I was wondering if what I have learnt back in 2015 is still relevant today. So I did what anyone today would do. I asked Ai (CoPilot) and this is what I've gathered.

Why PHP?

PHP remains a popular choice for web development due to its:

  • Widespread Use: Powers many leading content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.

  • Versatility: Strong community support and numerous frameworks like Laravel and Symfony.

  • Ease of Learning: User-friendly for beginners with a wealth of learning resources available.

SQL: Still a Reliable Database Option

When it comes to databases, SQL continues to be a top choice due to:

  • Robust Performance: Reliable handling of complex queries and transactions.

  • ACID Compliance: Ensures data integrity with Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability.

  • Modern Integrations: Integration with advanced technologies; for instance, Microsoft SQL Server 2025 includes AI capabilities.

Other Programming Languages to Consider

While PHP and SQL are fantastic, here are some other languages to diversify your toolkit:

  1. JavaScript: Crucial for front-end and full-stack development.

  2. Python: Ideal for data science, machine learning, and scripting.

  3. Go (Golang): Excellent for scalable network servers.

  4. TypeScript: Adds static typing to JavaScript.

  5. Swift: Perfect for iOS and macOS development.

In summary, learning PHP and SQL provides a solid foundation for developing robust business solutions, while also keeping an eye on other languages can broaden your horizons and enhance your skill set.

Happy coding! 🚀

Are you a new developer eyeing the landscape of 2025? Look no further! Here's why PHP and SQL are still incredibly valuable skills, especially if you're interested in providing business solutions like fleet management or school management systems.
