Webmaster and things

"The master of the web" that's my first impression. Well the funny thing is the master of the web is a spider. Are you a spider?

A webmaster is the man behind any website. He designs, develops, tests and maintains a website. It requires a lot of patience. 'F5' is going to be your favorite key if you're gonna be a web master.

What makes a website awesome?

Its definitely not the 'over-graphic' interface. Too many flying objects and very little content. The best designs are the simplest and purest designs. Its the content that does the talking. Put stuff people want to see, not what you want to put in.

What do people like to see?

Ask yourself that same question when you are developing your site, "What do I want to see in a website?". Surf around and see what you find in other sites and what you can do to make it more efficient.

I bet the best way to do this is to know your audience. What do people want to do when they go online. Internet is expensive, what makes them buy data to go online?

Papua New Guinea

In Papua New Guinea, people want to interact each other online. How do you create a site that will allow people to do so? More and more people get data not to surf or study or make money, they simply want to chat or post stuff to show other people.

As developers we need to encourage users to use the web productively and not just for entertainment and fun. We can do that in the way we design our sites to be more productive than just entertainment. Develop simple web applications that can help everyone either educational or financial or that will improve businesses.

Where to start

Start small, something local. Maybe you live in a compound where you've seen a store owner struggling to keep up with customer. Maybe creating a simple, local site for the owner to advertise products locally and to allow for orders to be placed and delivery included.

Something small, something thoughtful and simple

Anyways this blog is going too far beyond the point! The point is, how to be a successful webmaster! Ill get back with more tips in the next one
